Dr Grot is a native of Kentucky whose higher education experience was completed in Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida. His background in the helping profession extends decades that began while attending Western Kentucky University while working with children from oppressed families. From there he continued to focus upon empowering youth in Tennessee, which were facing family and substance abuse problems.
While in Tennessee he also interned at the Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute for the Criminally Insane. The internship revealed his passion for working with individuals with mental health diagnosis that led to him to pursue his education in the mental health field. While attending Rollins College he worked both as an academic and substance abuse counselor.
The experience he gained while earning his MA degree and working in the field of counseling led to his certification as a School Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of FL, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. After working in the counseling field he began to understand how individuals were impacted from a systemic perspective, which led to his doctoral degree that focused upon how families directly and indirectly impact the individual. His original research focused upon bullying while working as a school counselor working with at-risk high school students.
