Biography

Kimberly E. Brown was born and raised in rural Eastern Kentucky, where she still resides. She gained a BA degree in Human Services and Counseling '03; and a M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Development with an emphasis in Mental Health '05, both from Lindsey Wilson College ~ School of Professional Counseling's innovative partnership with Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College campus in Cumberland, KY.

Kimberly's dissertation, completed at Argosy University earning an Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology, was geared towards Appalachian culture signaling a true sign of her heritage. She has recently had her dissertation published, and has delved into other writing projects that are geared towards Appalachian Culture and counseling. Her recent publication is titled, "The Trials and Struggles of Women in the Workforce: Job Satisfaction in the Appalachian Region."

Kimberly has served and continues to serve her community in a variety of capacities as board member of the following:

  • Cumberland River Mental Health Counseling
  • Association former President; Harlan Appalachian Regional Healthcare
  • Harlan County Chamber of Commerce, two years Vice President
  • Kentucky Association of Blacks
  • In Higher Education, former External Affairs Chair, and named New Professional of the Year 2014
  • Pine Mountain Community Development
  • Newly appointed to the Cloverfork Clinic board.

Prior to becoming an Assistant Professor, Kimberly served as coordinator/instructor for Lindsey Wilson College on the Cumberland, KY campus. Also, she had the privilege to work with preschoolers; and has worked with high school students with Upward Bound. Her efforts as teaching in the CHD and HS programs are to ensure that students are prepared for the Human Services and Mental Health Counseling workforce. She is eager to help students and their communities grow and continue to flourish. When she is not working with students and serving her community, she loves traveling and photography.
